Google Earth Now In Google Maps

I began working on a new article this evening and opened up Google Maps as I frequently do, seeing if I could illustrate the post with a few imbedded images. Imagine my surprise when I saw the “Earth” button among the menu options. I quickly switched over to the Google LatLong blog and confirmed what I thought I saw: Google Earth is now viewable in Google Maps.

I am going to have a lot of fun with this. Check this out:

County Lines! Actually I don’t know if every viewer can see them because I think this image might be keying off the default settings I’ve specified in Google Earth on my laptop. Also if you’re not seeing Google Earth, go to the Google LatLong blog posting I referenced above and download the plugin. This is a great step in my low-key campaign to get county lines included in the standard Google Maps application.

It doesn’t take much to excite me.

Yep, I’ve got county lines. Still no excuse for not having them on the (presumably less clunky on my 6-year-old Powerbook) plain old Map view. But definitely worth playing with on the work computer tomorrow. Only during breaks, though, of course.
