Street View Comes to Antarctica

If you didn’t catch it yet on the Google Lat Long Blog, you may be surprised to learn that Google Street View has now arrived in Antarctica.

Now, truth be told, the coverage isn’t extensive. It can be found only on one tiny corner of a place called Half Moon Island. Some may argue, “well if it’s just an island can it really be considered part of Antarctica?” Let’s put those thoughts aside. The images are stunning.

It has all the same features as standard Street View. You can look around 360°, walk along rocky beaches, and stare at the penguins. The other thing I noticed was that the little Street View guy changed into a little penguin when I dropped him on the map.

Check it out!

I find it sad that Google Street View has Antarctica of all places, and yet almost nothing in my town 🙁

I’ve been somewhat-seriously hoping for Google Train View for a while now. I bet you could get some interesting finds.

And now for something completely different… A question came to my mind yesterday, and I think you’ll enjoy it, and you will enjoy finding the answer as well…

What are the two most distant towns, or villages, in the US (contiguous 48, that is)? And what are the two most distant state capitals?

I have no idea why this came up to my mind, though.
