Page 141: Adams Township. Early Settlement. "Jesse ADAMS, William CASWELL, Eliphalet EDMUNDS, Charles WEEKS, Sr., Charles WEEKS, Jr., Martin WEEKS, Israel TAYLOR, Philip FALL, and Capt. HURST, all settle here in 1823. Mr. ADAMS came from Rochester, N. Y., and for many years was prominently identified with the history of this township. It was he who gave it its name, not, however, to perpetuate his own, but, according to his own statement, in honor of John Quincy ADAMS, of whom he was a great admirer. Later in life, Mr. ADAMS removed to Jefferson Township, which is where he died in 1855... The first death was that of a daughter of Jesse ADAMS. She died in 1825, and was buried on her father's farm. The first marriage was solemnized in 1827, by Squire Jesse ADAMS... The first election was held at the house of Eliphalet EDMUNDS, on the second Monday in March, 1826... and the election resulted in... Justices of the Peace, Jesse ADAMS and Cyrus TABER."

From this date the spot was known as the Adams Cemetery, and received many occupants from this and neighboring townships."
