"I, Elsie A. WHITNEY of said county and state lawful wife of Joel E. WHITNEY... Item 1st: I will and direct that when I am dead my body shall be buried by my deceased children Mabel and Sarah in Oakland cemetery St. Paul Minnesota and the place of my interment be marked by a suitable stone. Item 2nd: It is my wish that in the event of the death of either or both of my now living children, Sam Willey and Joe Ella during their minority that their remains shall be buried in our family burying lot in said Oakland Cemetery and I desire that their graves be marked with suitable and beautiful stones. Item 3rd: Upon the death of my beloved husband I desire that his remains shall be laid by mine and that his grave be marked by an appropriate stone. Item 4th: If my husband during his life time should not have a monument erected on the WHITNEY family burying lot, then and in that event I direct that my Executors hereinafter named to succeed him, shall within one year after his death, have erected on that portion of that said lot used by our family a low but beautiful monument costing not less than one thousand nor more than five thousand dollars, the price within these limits being left to their judgment. Item 5th: I bequest to my very precious son Sam Willey WHITNEY my plain gold ring and my ring set with three diamonds, and to my beautiful and darling daughter Joe Ella WHITNEY I bequeath my wedding ring set with one diamond my ring set with five diamonds, my watch and chain and all my other jewelry, also my furs, fine shawls, silk dresses, laces and linen garments. The remainder of my wardrobe I bequeath to my beloved sister Ellen B. AYER. Item 6th: I will and bequeath to my children Sam Willey and Joe Ella all my silver, books, and pictures, but desire that these articles shall be used in the family during the life time of my beloved husband and that the manner of their division be designated by him. Item 7th: On the respective and recurring anniversaries of the birth of each of my children during minority, it is my wish and I so direct that either the sum of ten dollars be expended for them by my executor or executors in the purchase of books, pictures, or some article of use or ornament or amusement, or that my said executors shall pay to them respectively the sum of ten dollars to be so expended which sums are to be expended or paid from the income of my estate. Item 8th: I will and direct that the residue of my property both real and personal of every character and description shall be used possessed and controlled by my beloved husband Joel E. WHITNEY..."
