"BINGHAM BURROUGHS DEAD. Supt. of the City Water Department, Passed Away this Morning At 1:30 o'clock after two weeks illness with pleuro-pneumonia. Bingham B. BURROUGHS, Superintendent of the City of Lockport Water works department, died at his home on East avenue. He was 63 years of age and was one of the city's most respected and well-known citizens. It was not thought until a few days ago that Mr. BURROUGHS' indisposition was serious, but when it changed for the worse. Drs. HURD of this city and HODGE of Niagara Falls exhausted all medical resources in vain endeavor to save his life. Mr. BURROUGHS was born at Penfield, Monroe county, N. Y., May 21, 1841. He removed to Lockport in 1860 and when the civil war broke out he enlisted in the union cause, serving through the war. In 1866 he married Miss Nettie D. VanVALKENBURGH of this city. He was for a long time manager and foreman of a line of canal boats plying between Buffalo and New York for the Jackson Lumber company and later held an important position in the building of the Buffalo breakwater, after which in August. 1894 he was appointed superintendent of the local water works department, vice Robert STERRITT, resigned, and has since continuously held that place. His second wife, Elida L. BURROUGHS, survives him as also two daughters, Mrs. Arthur LERCH and Miss Ida M. BURROUGHS, both of this city. The funeral will occur at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon from the house. Burial in Cold Springs cemetery."
