NOTES PROVIDED IN THE ERLENKOTTER FAMILY RECORDS:

"James WESTCOAT, from Rehoboth, was one of the first settlers at Richmond, New Hampshire. He served in the Richmond company of Col. DOOLITTLE's regiment in 1775; in Capt. John HOUGHTON's company with Col. BALDWIN's regiment in New York in 1776; and in Capt. Samuel WRIGHT's company, Col. NICHOLS's regiment, Gen. STARK's brigade in 1777 at the battle of Bennington and the first battle of Stillwater. In 1776 he was one of the signers in Richmond of the Association Test, and in 1778 he was chosen as a member of a committee to raise men to serve in the army. On 1 October 1785 he and his son Nathan were among the signers of a petition for the appointment of a justice of the peace at Richmond. James sold his land in Richmond in 1788 and removed from the town."

"The will of James WESTCOAT of Cheshire, Berkshire County, MA, dated 11 March 1794, names beloved wife Hannah; sons Nathan, Samuel, and Dikins; and daughters Rhoda CHASE, Abigail GRINELL, Sarah WILLIAMS, Charlotte WESTCOAT, and Candace WESTCOAT. Beloved wife Hannah and son-in-law Isaac WILLIAMS were nominated as executrix and executor of the will."
