- Death: 1939 (aged 69)
- Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery; Estherville, Emmet County, Iowa, USA

(19) Family History, Volume S(4), Sylvester, Daughters of the American Revolution library, Washington, DC., p. 5.

- This source lists her surname as "McFARLEN."

(20) A Note on the Surname: Mary Jane / Mamie has several surname variations used in primary and secondary records, e.g., McFARLAN; McFARLAND, McFARLANE, and McFARLEN. I've retained the original spelling in each of the citations provided above. However I've selected McFARLAN for the overarching record using Find a Grave as a justification. The gravestone markers of many of her relatives used that particular spelling variation, e.g., John Alexander McFARLAN (father), Archie A. McFARLAN (brother), G.T. McFARLAN (uncle); Mary H. McFARLAN (aunt); Isabella B. McFARLAN (aunt); John McFARLAN (grandfather). This surname spelling is used consistently across different cemeteries, and therefore it's probably the preferred variation. Multiple gravestones carved over decades in different locations are unlikely to include a typographical error.
