(1) Silvester, Albert Henry, "Richard Silvester of Weymouth, Mass., and Some of his Descendants," New England Historical and Genealogical Register volume LXXXV (Boston, MA: 1931), p. 258.

"Richard [SILVESTER], b. at Marshfield about 1652; d. unm. at Hull, Mass., probably at the house of his brother-in-law, Edward WRIGHT, between 5 July 1678 and 14 Jan. 1678/9. In King Philip's War he served in the forces of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, under Captain POOLE at Hadley, Mass., in 1675, and under MOSELEY at Narragansett, in Rhode Island, from Dec. 1675 to July 1676. His name appears on several pay rolls, and he was credited to the town of Milton. According to DEANE's 'History of Scituate' this Richard SILVESTER married about 1678 Hannah, 'daughter of Old James LEONARD of Taunton,' and the reader is referred to 'records at Boston.' BARRY's 'History of Hanover' makes the same statement, and adds that Richard was probably the ancestor of the SILVESTERs of Norfolk County. The truth is that Richard was before the Court at Plymouth on 5 July 1678 and was fined £5, and, if he did not marry the daughter of old LEONARD of Taunton, he was to be fine £5 more. There is no further record in this case, but the evidence seems to show that he died soon after his appearance at Court and that he neither married nor paid a fine. A gravestone inscription shows that Hannah LEONARD married 24 Jan 1678 [? 1678/9] Isaac DEAN, and therefore she is eliminated as a wife of Richard SILVESTER. The SILVESTERs of Norfolk County were descended from Benjamin SILVESTER, Richard's brother. Richard SILVESTER died intestate, and on 14 Jan. 1678/9 Edward WRIGHT, his brother-in-law, who was also a creditor, was appointed administrator of his estate. The inventory 'of Richard SILVESTER who deceased at Hull about July 1678,' taken by Nathanll BOSWORTH and Tho. COLEAR, was sworn to by Edward WRIGHT 14 Jan. 1678/9, and listed various articles of clothing, amounting to £6. 10s."
