"Private in Revolutionary War under Col. John NEVILLE at Ft. Pitt. His name appears in list of troops paid off at Romney. On August 7, 1775, the provincial government order Col. John NEVILLE to march with his company and take possession of Fort Pitt. The name of Wm. McGAUGHEY is in that list of soldiers. In 1783, William McGAUGHEY was a taxpayer in Green County, Tennessee. His name is on the tax list."

The site of the fort is 13 1/2 miles southeast of Knoxville on the old Highway #411 to Sevierville." "Died near the Duck River in Maury County in 1812."
