- When Charlotte was 13 years old she moved to Minnesota: "The family traveled up the Mississippi river and landed at a place called Halls landing... He [Stephen BURNS, Charlotte's father] wanted to build up the landing and make it a town. He purchased an interest in the landing and immediately started to build a log cabin to live in. He laid out the town with a surveyor, Caleb Barker SYLVESTER [the father of Charles SYLVESTER who eventually married Charlotte BURNS]... This town was built on the banks of the Mississippi at Hall's Landing and was called Mt. Vernon... all this information was gathered from the history book 'The History of Winona County, Minn.' ... Unfortunately all traces of the town are gone."
