"The first record we have of any of the HANKS family in Randolph is June 24, 1793, when Theophilus Sargent HANKS purchased eighty-one acres of land… married for his second wife Lenda TRACY of Tunbridge , June 24, 1829. Of their children who lived to maturity were: …LEONARD TRACY HANKS, born October 9, 1842, is at present a prominent and successful dentist in Dubuque, Iowa. He is an enthusiastic Knights Templar, and for four consecutive years has been Commander of the Ancient Order of United Workmen of Iowa."
