"Dr. A. R. DYER, 70, Educator, Dies

NEW BRITAIN, April 30. -- (AP) Dr. Annie ROBERTSON DYER, 70, prominent educator who was active in community affairs for many years, died today in New Britain hospital. Mrs. DYER came to New Britain in 1926 when her late husband, William P. DYER, was superintendant of the training schools of Teachers College of Connecticut, now Central Connecticut State college. She became associated with Hillyer college in Hartford in 1945 as part-time professor of sociology and continued in that capacity until her recent illness. A graduate of Hartford public schools and Simmons college, she taught in Hartford high schools and was director of research in home economics at Teachers college, Columbia university. She organized the department of home economics of the National Education association and was president of the Connecticut association in 1941-43. Durng the first World war she was on the Governor's War Council. She was the author of several books and magazine articles. A leader in civic affairs here, she was a founder of the public forum. She and her husband were lovers of outdoor life and were members of the Connecticut Campers association. She is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Alice DYER OLSON of West St. Paul, Minn; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Miss Florence ROBERTSON and Mrs. Asa P. THOMPSON of Hartford; and two brothers, Martin R. ROBERTSON of Manchester, and Lafayette J. ROBERTSON of Hartford. Services will take place on Monday at 1 p.m. in South Congregational church."
