Slumber Worth Fighting for,
Petty Officer Proves
Chief Petty Officer Vollie Lykins, 41, 219 11th-st sw, who fought in the
African campaign, likes his sleep well enough to fight for it, it was
indicated when he landed in Municipal Court yesterday.
He was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon on George Howder, 51,
cab driver of 1117 Massachusetts-av nw, who was also charged with the
same offense. According to testimony, Mr. Howder started to argue with
two women passengers in front of Mr. Lykins' house. The petty officer
yelled "Shut up! I want to sleep." Police declared he then came out and
Howder started to wield a blackjack. Lykins then pulled out a pistol he
used in Tunisia, fired it twice in the air, and then the real battle
started, police said.
Judge Ellen K. Raedy dismissed charges against both men when she learned
Lykins was leaving... [the bottom of the article is torn here]
