"THE COBB FAMILY. 20. Samuel-3 COBB, b. 10 Sept. 1691, son of Samuel-2 and Elizabeth (TAYLOR) COBB of Barnstable came to W. T. [West Tisbury] abt. 1715 and was a leading citizen during his long life. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He m. (1) Sarah CHASE (29) 27 June 1716, who was b. 15 Oct. 1695 and d. 23 Aug. 1749. They had five children (1717-1727) all of whom d. young, the oldest surviving but seven months. He m. (2) Mrs. Deborah (COFFIN) (36) GARDNER, widow of Tristram 15 Feb. 1749-50, who was b. 14 July 1715 and d. 16 Jan. 1795, leaving no issue. He d. 7 Dec. 1786 and the name is now extinct on the island."
