- Wednesday, May 21, 1947; page 2-B: "Former Employees Reopen Farnham’s Restaurant. Farnham’s Restaurant on Chapel reopened today under the new management of its former bartender and chef, who inherited the right to the business and plan to maintain its traditions. James F. FARNHAM, who died Apr. 14 after operating the restaurant for 14 years, bequeathed the first option on the business to Palm FIATO, who has tended bar there since 1936, and Mark HOWDER, who had been chef since 1933. The restaurant closed May 14, was acquired by the two men May 16, when they raised the money to buy it… As owners, they will continue to to work as bartender and chef."

In case you’ve been wondering how the chef and bartender at Farnham’s have been making out since they took over the restaurant, the answer is ‘Very nicely, thank you.’… chef Mark C. HOWDER, 41, of 126 Jefferson… Mr. HOWDER, born in Wilson, Niagara County, attended school through the first year of high and then became a patternmaker in a Buffalo factory. He was laid off during the depression. The best stopgap job he could get was as kitchen help. By the time he left Buffalo for Albany in 1930 he had worked up to cooking. He was cook in several Albany restaurants before he was hired by Mr. FARNHAM in 1933 as night chef. A few years later he became day chef. The HOWDER’s children are Mark Jr, 15; Doris, 13; Shirley, 12; Eleanor, 10; Mary, 8; Edward, 6; and Louise, 5. They are all very much excited about having a restaurant in the family…"
- Saturday, May 15, 1948; page A-3: "Hampton St. House Sold. Sale of a one-family house at 6 Hampton St. was among the real estate transactions reported this week by Wheeler and Futterer. Mark HOWDER of 126 Jefferson St., part owner of Farnham’s Restaurant, bought the property from Gloria BERNSTEIN and Sylvia COHEN, occupants. The house has two screened porches and seven rooms, of which four are bedrooms, and there is a one-car garage. The holding price was $14,500."

The wedding was Friday in Wichita Falls, Tex., where he is stationed and where he and his bride will make their home until June."

The Hollywood Princess who will be married to the Prince of Monaco next spring once studied her lines in an Albany restaurant booth… Miss KELLY, with others of the Albany troupe, spent a great deal of her time in Farnham’s Restaurant, 79 Chapel St., which was a hangout for actors and actresses. She always sat in the same small booth. Her picture hangs above it, ‘To Steve and Mark with best wishes, Grace KELLY.’ Steve Fiato and Mark HOWDER own the restaurant…"

(Steve) FIATO, 37, of North Greenish, co-owner of Farnham’s Restaurant and widely known in the Albany area, died yesterday at the Albany Veterans Hospital after several months’ illness. Mr. FIATO, a native of Albany, had operated the restaurant at Maiden Lane and Chapel Street with Mark HOWDER since May 21, 1947… the FIATO-HOWDER friendship was one of long standing, dating to the days when Mr. FIATO first reported for work as a dishwasher."
