"Deaths-- Mrs. Mary Ida McGAUGHY, 83, Dies; Funeral 3 P.M. Tuesday. Mrs. Mary Ida McGAUGHY, 83-year-old, long time resident of Birmingham died Sunday at the home of her daughter in Ensley. In failing health for some time, Mrs. McGAUGHY had been seriously ill for about three weeks. A native of Shelby County, Mrs. McGAUGHY was married Jan. 3, 1884 in Montevallo, Ala., to James Leonard McGAUGHY. She came to Birmingham with her husband in the early '20s. Mrs. McGAUGHY lived here with her daughter, Mrs. Edna ALEXANDER at 1724 32nd Street, Ensley. She had been a member of the Dogwood Grove Baptist Church, Underwood, Ala., for 50 years. For the past 31 years, she had been a member of the T. E. L. Sunday School Class of Pike Avenue Baptist Church. Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Agnes THARIN, Hueytown; Mrs. Annie C. SPECHT, Talladega; Mrs. Ethel MILLER, Wilsonville; Mrs. Hattie WALKER, Mrs. Henrietta CLAYTON, Mrs. Leta HENDERSON and Mrs. Edna ALEXANDER, all of Birmingham; a sister, Mrs. Sanki HERRING, Birmingham; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary CARLETON, Marvel, Ala. Funeral services will be held at the Pike Avenue Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The Rev. Theo HARRIS, the Rev. Quinton LEE, the Rev. Chester BOWLES and the Rev. W. M. TREADAWAY will officiate. Brown-Service, Norwood will be in charge of arrangements."
