- Follow this link for a map of all the breweries and brewpubs I have visited.
Reason for Visit: We were in Alaska on vacation for a couple of weeks, using Anchorage as our point of access on both sides of the trip. The big international airport is located here so we booked a day on either end in Anchorage to better align with airline schedules. The bonus is that there are a number of brewpubs and microbreweries to choose from in the immediate area.
Outside of the Brewpub: Anchorage is a decent-sized city but it's an easily accessible one. We had no problem walking from our hotel to the brewpub, or to any other place downtown for that matter. I'm still trying to decipher the distinction between the name of the restaurant (Snow Goose) and the brewery operation (Sleeping Lady) because they were absolutely collocated and seemed to be operating as one-and-the-same. They call themselves Snow Goose Restaurant and Brewery on their facebook page. So what's up with the Sleeping Lady thing? I just don't get it. Either way, they have an outdoor deck with amazing views of Knik Arm and of military aircraft landing at Elmendorf Air Force Base. We arrived on an absolutely perfect, sunny Friday afternoon. The deck, sadly for us, was totally packed with people who probably just got off work and wanted to start their weekend on the right foot. We got a nice table by a large window indoors but it wasn't quite the same as the deck. Better luck next time, I suppose. We still enjoyed our visit.
Copper Brewing Kettle: We walked through the main entrance into a small vestibule area where the hostesses greeted patrons. The brewing plant is clearly visible off to the left side on the other side of glass. That would account for some of the odd reflection in this image along with what's reflected directly off the gleaming copper. Every brewpub should have at least a little copper whether functional or not; this did indeed appear quite functional.
Sampler Flight: Of course we ordered a sampler, arranged from light (far end of the photo) to dark (foreground) You can catch a glimpse of one of their logo pint glasses at the far end of this arrangement. The glass says, Sleeping Lady Brewing Company, Anchorage, Alaska. It features a snowcapped mountain scene in a rectangular landscape format with the name of the brewery written below the snowline. It doesn't mention Snow Goose although it has a tiny image of the Snow Goose logo in the upper-right corner. |
