- The author notes: "Katherine died when she was only 9 years old. She was a bright and pretty child, with large blue eyes and curly hair. Her death was accidental. She was carrying wood and fell and struck her head (on her temple). In a short time, intense pain developed. There was no doctor anywhere in the county at that time. The suffering became so terrific that the child screamed in agony and her grandmother said that she prayed if God would take the child, she would not grieve for her. The little girl soon lapsed into unconsciousness and passed away. The grandmother said that she cried for her anyway."
